Director of Housing
The City of Ketchum is seeking a Director of Housing to serve as Department Head for the Housing Department and lead the City’s community housing initiatives.
Position Summary
The Director of Housing leads the City of Ketchum’s efforts to shape a more accessible, sustainable, and resilient housing landscape.
This role brings a strategic, community-first perspective to one of Ketchum’s most complex challenges—balancing growth, livability, and affordability in a resort-driven economy. Through policy, partnerships, and program development, the Director advances solutions that allow people to live, work, and thrive in the community.
Working under the general direction of the City Administrator, this position requires initiative, independent judgment, and the ability to navigate complex and often sensitive issues with clarity and confidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and advance Ketchum’s Housing Action Plan in alignment with long-term community goals
- Develop and implement innovative housing strategies tailored to a resort community
- Build and manage partnerships with developers, agencies, and community organizations
- Oversee housing funding, including grants and public resources, ensuring compliance and impact
- Guide policy development and recommend zoning updates to support housing priorities
- Monitor housing trends and affordability to inform strategic decision-making
- Engage the community and advise City leadership through clear communication and recommendations
Requirements
- Strong understanding of housing development, policy, and community planning
- Ability to navigate complex, high-impact issues with sound judgment and professionalism
- Experience building partnerships and aligning diverse stakeholders around shared goals
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and advance complex initiatives
- Strong communication skills, including presenting to public audiences and decision-makers
- Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and funding structures related to housing
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration, community development, or a related field
- 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in housing, development, or policy
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
Additional Requirements
- Valid Idaho driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to successfully pass a background check
